REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Degree Program StudentsDegree program graduate students (students who have been formally admitted
to a graduate program) can register for courses only at their "home" university
using the course codes applicable at that university.
Special Students
Individuals who already hold a bachelor's degree are usually permitted
to register to take graduate courses (for which they have the required
background) as "special students". Such students must register for a course
at the university where the course is actually given. Special student may
register for a maximum of two courses during any particular semester. Before
registration, they must obtain the permission of the instructor and the graduate director. Note that
at most two courses taken as a Special Student may be transferred to
a graduate program.
Graduate Course Codes
Each graduate course offered carries two codes, one for use by students
registered at Carleton University (e.g., codes with the prefix COMP)
and one for use by students registered at the University of Ottawa
(e.g. codes with the prefix CSI). In the list of course descriptions
below, the first listed course code indicates the university at which the
course is normally given.
Sessional Dates:
More information on sessional dates regarding Carleton courses is available from Carleton University's Web Pages.
More information on sessional dates regarding Ottawa courses is available from the University of Ottawa's Web Pages.
Registration of Courses (U of O):
- Students list the courses which they wish to take on the Registration form. (The form can be obtained from the Academic Assistant, Ms. Annik Dion - ocics-info@site.uottawa.ca).
- Approval of the listed courses is then obtained by the students from their thesis supervisor. (This approval is indicated by supervisor's initials opposite each course).
- The form is returned to the Academic Assistant for her signature.
Part-time students should note that they may register in at most two
courses per session. Furthermore, for part-time students registration for
thesis (either CSI7999 or CSI9999) or for the Ph.D. comprehensive exam
(CSI9998) precludes registration for any other course.
